Aya Healing & Wellness

The journey is everything...

The Aya (pronounced “eye–ah”) is a West African Adinkra symbol derived from the Twi language and translated to “fern.” Symbolizing resourcefulness, endurance and defiance against oppression, the fern is a hardy plant that can grow in difficult places. "An individual who wears this symbol suggests that [they have] endured many adversities and outlasted much difficulty."

(Willis, The Adinkra Dictionary)

Felicia Pitre, clinical social worker at Aya Healing & Wellness, proudly wears the Aya on her left forearm as a reminder of her own power and strength. As a clinician, it is important for Felicia to also acknowledge her own limitations. Felicia views the therapeutic process as a bridge between life’s difficulties and the greatness that lies within each individual. Through the therapeutic relationship, Felicia will walk with you as you (re)discover and (re)claim your inner strength and greatness. Indeed, the journey is everything.
